Step 4 Identify Alternative Futures and Priorities

While it’s critical to gather and curate existing information about the future, accurate prediction is becoming less possible. Instead, it is about being better prepared for the expected as well as alternative futures coming at us. Additionally it will be important to work collaboratively to articulate a plausible, meaningful future that can be achieved. This step is about using tools and resources for initiating that process before taking it to a larger group of stakeholders.

Up until this point, the process may feel somewhat ‘messy’ and unclear however, at this point in the planning process, ideas and priorities, and a direction  will begin to emerge.

The Collaboration Convenors who have been guiding the planning until now will be able to describe priorities, even though there may not be a lot of detail yet about how they will be put into place. The steps needed for moving forward, as well as who else will need to be involved, will become clearer as the result of Step 5 and gathering broader stakeholders.
